Do you like to draw? Would you want to see your artwork on billboards all over Sacramento? If you're interested, this is the contest for you. Kaiser Permanente is proud to be running its 22nd annual 'Don't Buy the Lie' Anti-Smoking contest. If you're interested, see Mr. Asbury, our art teacher, or Mrs. Kent. Or just get a poster in the front office for more information!

Congratulations to our first Yearbook Creative Art Contest winners...
with a tie for 3rd Place: Amy Stepanova and Karina Vuksta, 2nd Place - Jade Diones, and in 1st Place - Victoria Neverov!
Winners will be receiving Jamba Juice gift cards next week. Thank you to everyone who participated. Your art will also be featured in the yearbook this year! Great job ladies!

Riles is extremely proud of Spencer Holt. He won our Riles' spelling bee and placed 2nd in California's Central Valley Spelling Bee on Wednesday. Spencer, you represented us well and we can't wait to see how you do next year! Great job.

A huge congratulations go out to Peter Cao for advancing to the state level of the National Geographic Geography Bee! After winning the school bee, Peter had to take a test that included two essays. The state competition will be held on March 27th in Fresno. Good luck to Peter and next time you see him, ask him where Timbuktu is.

Great job Huskies on another great week with Pennies for Patients. Here's the weekend challenge. How many pennies can you find with an "S" minted on it? The "S" stands for San Francisco. Find some pennies and bring them to your 2nd period classroom's box!

Here's your penny fact of the day! The United States has 8 mints, 4 which are currently operational! 1 of them is San Francisco!

Have you checked out a library book? Then did you forget to return it in a timely manner? If you have an overdue library book, please make an effort to find it and bring it in!

Do you have any box tops at home? If you do, bring those to school too. Want a donut party from PTA? Then bring in those box-tops!

Pennies for Patients

Our school is thrilled to be participating in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's School & Youth Programs! Students who participated in Pennies for Patients raised nearly $28 million to fund breakthrough therapies to save the lives of blood cancer patients.

Funds raised through programs like School & Youth enable the discovery and delivery of therapies that improve the quality of life for patients. From 2000 through 2013, almost 40 percent of new anti-cancer drugs were FDA-approved for blood cancer patients -- more first-ever approvals than for any other group of cancers -- and many of these were advanced with funding from efforts like ours.

Please donate at school or through this link.

Mrs. Morris is the advisor for this fundraiser.
