Dear Wilson C. Riles Middle School Students and Families,

On behalf of the Riles faculty and staff, we would like to welcome you to a new school year!  We are proud to serve you and your children as the administrative team of Riles Middle School.

Please update and/or complete the following documents online:

7th Grade Students Only - Please provide the following documentation:

  • Proof of immunization
    All students in grade 7 need a Tdap shot in order to attend classes.

Please visit the WCR website (www.centerusd.k12.ca.us/cusd/wcriles), print out and return these documents during the class schedule pick up date:

Class Schedule Pick Up Dates:

  • 8th Grade- July 29 - Riles main office 8:30 a.m.- 12:00 p.m.
  • 7th Grade- July 29- 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. (immediately following the WEB orientation) in the multipurpose room.

The first day of school is Wednesday, August 3, 2016.  Every Monday is an Early-out Day (7:55 a.m.-1:11 p.m.).  The school day is from 7:55 a.m. to 2:17 p.m. Tuesday-Friday.

Washington DC Trip 2017

Our trip for 2017:  Washingon DC - Williamsburg - Monticello. 

This trip is my favorite of all the trips and all who have traveled have loved it! 

Williamsburg is a living history site where you spend a day in colonial history walking the streets, visiting shops, eating the bakery treats, and watching historic events come to life.


Monticello is the home of Thomas Jefferson, our 3rd President (the back of the nickel). The view from his plantation is absolutely breathtaking. His home is full of treasures from the Lewis and Clark expedition as well as things he invented to make his life easier. You can also pick up a cold bottle of his root beer in the store--it's pretty darn good. We'll also go to have a lunch at the nearby Michie Tavern--best fried chicken around! 


Finally, we head to DC where we will walk til we drop. The plan is to get tickets to the Washington Monument and maybe the White House (more difficult to get). We'll tour the Capitol building and see where our Congress members work. Arlington National Cemetery is a sacred spot where we will see the changing of guard and the Iwo Jima Memorial--ask your grandparents. Monuments abound in the city: Lincoln, Jefferson, FDR, MLK, Einstein, Vietnam, and World War II--we'll see most at night when they are most spectacular--all lit up. We've go to a few of the Smithsonian buildings too (Night at the Museum II). Other options (depending on what's open) will be the Supreme Court building and Library of Congress. We'll visit Mount Vernon, home of George and Martha Washington--over the years, they have made improvements to the site, and when I visited last fall, I was most impressed. We might even try the bread pudding (which I have never liked until I tried Martha's recipe!)

I hope you can join us on the journey; it's an unforgettable trip of a lifetime.
