Pennies for Patients

Our school is thrilled to be participating in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Pennie for Patients Fundraiser!

WCR Donation Link

Pennies for Patients is a three-week program where students collect change and raise funds online while learning about service and philanthropy in support of the LLS mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

More than 13 million students and 850,000 educators in 27,000 schools across the U.S. participate annually. Since its beginning, students have raised more than $315 million to fund breakthrough therapies and patient services, and more than $26 million in 2015-2016 alone!

Washington DC Trip 2017

Our trip for 2017:  Washingon DC - Williamsburg - Monticello.

This trip is my favorite of all the trips and all who have traveled have loved it!

Williamsburg is a living history site where you spend a day in colonial history walking the streets, visiting shops, eating the bakery treats, and watching historic events come to life.

https://www.colonialwilliamsburg.com

Monticello is the home of Thomas Jefferson, our 3rd President (the back of the nickel). The view from his plantation is absolutely breathtaking. His home is full of treasures from the Lewis and Clark expedition as well as things he invented to make his life easier. You can also pick up a cold bottle of his root beer in the store--it's pretty darn good. We'll also go to have a lunch at the nearby Michie Tavern--best fried chicken around!

Finally, we head to DC where we will walk til we drop. The plan is to get tickets to the Washington Monument and maybe the White House (more difficult to get). We'll tour the Capitol building and see where our Congress members work. Arlington National Cemetery is a sacred spot where we will see the changing of guard and the Iwo Jima Memorial--ask your grandparents. Monuments abound in the city: Lincoln, Jefferson, FDR, MLK, Einstein, Vietnam, and World War II--we'll see most at night when they are most spectacular--all lit up. We've go to a few of the Smithsonian buildings too (Night at the Museum II). Other options (depending on what's open) will be the Supreme Court building and Library of Congress. We'll visit Mount Vernon, home of George and Martha Washington--over the years, they have made improvements to the site, and when I visited last fall, I was most impressed. We might even try the bread pudding (which I have never liked until I tried Martha's recipe!)

I hope you can join us on the journey; it's an unforgettable trip of a lifetime.

Here's a link to my school website.  At the bottom there is a link to our travel company with our trip number.  I have used this company for several trips and been with my rep for over 12 years. They are safe and reliable.
